Exemple:

The image depicts a medieval map known as the “Mappa Mundi” or “Map of the World.” This particular example is likely the famous one from Hereford Cathedral in England, dating back to the early 13th century. Here are some key features and descriptions of the map: 1. Circular Design: The map is circular, which was a common format for medieval world maps, symbolizing the universe with Jerusalem often at the center. 2. Jerusalem at the Center: Jerusalem is typically depicted at the center of the map, reflecting its religious significance in medieval Christian thought.3. Orientation: The map is oriented with East at the top, a tradition that dates back to ancient times. 4. Illustrations and Labels: The map is filled with detailed illustrations and labels written in Latin. These include cities, regions, bodies of water, and various significant locations from the medieval worldview. 5. Religious and Mythical Elements: In addition to geographical features, the map includes religious and mythical elements. For example, the Garden of Eden, the Tower of Babel, and various biblical events are depicted. 6. Color and Symbolism: The use of color and symbolism is prominent. Different colors are used to distinguish various regions and features, and symbols are used to represent important locations and events. 7. Surrounding Text: The map is surrounded by text, which provides additional context and information about the depicted locations and events. 8. Artistic Style: The artistic style is characteristic of medieval manuscripts, with intricate details and a focus on religious and historical significance rather than geographical accuracy. This map is not only a historical artifact but also a work of art, providing valuable insights into the medieval worldview and the knowledge of geography during that time.
